Break in at my dorm complex

Someone had their dorm broken into the other day... I don't keep cash or valuables in the main room (except the TV) and I don't own anything like a PS3, and when I am not here everything like my laptop or cell phone or DS or Zune is with me so I don't think there would be much of value to take, unless someone really wanted my plushies for some reason. ;-; I have a locking cabinet, so I think I will move my DS games and my coin collection and my jewelery in there.

This is on the heels of a couple sexual assaults on another part of campus. School feels less safe this year. :(

Cheese and butter are the worst for me I have learned. Especially Pizza cheese and cheescake. *flails* Hopefully this new one-a-day stuff I am trying will improve things. :D

I get to write a paper for a political science seminar on the president. Like not any specific president, just THE PRESIDENT in general. Being the good lil anthropologist I am, my paper will concern language and culture in the invisible presidency. Edward Sapir would be so proud. <3

We are fencing Wesleyan University on friday (and perhaps SCAD too) in Women's foil. Should be awesome! :D I hope my knickers arrive before then. I was kinda embarrased to borrow my coach's last weekend. xD Also there is a tournament in Atlanta I might go to.

Fencing has been going okay. Sometimes I get frustrated and then I feel bad. ;-; I'm getting better technically. I still need to become more aggressive or mean or assertive or something. That's hard for me. I have no killer instinct. :o I did get a sweeeeet hit today in my practice bout. :D I landed on my initial attack with a cross-over lunge. n_____n I still lost 5-1 but that hit made me happy. :D I like crossover lunges because I can go farther but if your opponent is watching your feet they know what you are doing. However it is a good move for me to throw in every once in a while because my normal lunge is ... short so it really catches people off guard. :D I need to improve my disengages!

We are fencing a small tournament with Weselyan university in a couple weeks though I think. :D Women foilists only of course. Should be fun... I hope I can improve some more before then so I can maybe win a bout or kick some ass or something.

I had 4 tests over this last week. @_@ At least it is over. :D Though I think I need to work harder at statistics. ;-;

I registered to vote! :D I am so excited. Now I just need to figure out absentee voting. n_n

I have figured out that I am lactose intolerant. I thought it was just soda carbonation that was making my tummy hurt but I have completely cut out soda. I miss it but I don't even like the taste anymore. xD Oh well it's better for me anyways. :D

Ice cream tho ... and cheese ... >_> saaaaaad nef. I guess I should get some yogurt next time I am at the store, because Calcium is important. :D

I went to Savannah on Saturday night with all my bestest friends. :D We had an impromtu craving for Red Lobster's Endless Shrimp deal, and there of course is no Red Lobster in Statesboro. :P It was yuuuuuuuummy. :D I never feel like I eat enough to make it a good deal but Ian makes up for me. :D :D Plus I got to take some home. :D

Yay fencing practice tonight. :D I did well on my honors Economics exam yesterday. The course focuses on macro economics, which is easier than micro if I recall from High School.

Zune 3.0 went live yesterday. :D For those who don't follow the Zune's development (it still has the smaller market share) Microsoft likes to release firmware updates that are compatible for all devices instead of just releasing a new product for people who want to upgrade. I like that move over forced obselecence. I feel like I will be enjoying my Zune 30 for a long time yet. :D

Like now but wasn't sure of initially - Clock (useful!) Games (Not sucky! Well maybe I should rephrase that, since they do suck a lot of power lol)

Still Want - Asian text support. ;-; My Japanese music shows up as rectangles. D: Not that I would be able to fully comprehend it written properly but it would be easier to pick the song I want. My friend says its a unicode thing probably. There was a hack out there for the old old firmware but it was a super tricky hack that I wouldn't attempt.

Won't Use - Wifi Song Purchasing (I never have Microsoft Points lol)

And now I have a complaint! It bothers me when people don't say please and thank you. :|

Also the computer lab smells like cheese.

Today at practice I got to fence instead of run and do pushups. :D Yay! :D

I'm not bad either. n_n I just need to be more aggressive. It might be hard though. xD I am small and I have a small voice. :O

Female fencers have to wear ... 'boob cups' for protection. Mine weren't on properly. Being stabbed in the boob hurts. D: Not too bad though. :P

I'm happy. :D

She is my only female UFO catcher as well! My Kenshins are my PRIDE AND JOY. <3 I have all the official Japanese plushies of Kenshin the character. :D (There are five, two of which are mascot). The one in the middle with the purple top is from series 2, while the others are Series 1. Series 2 are not as high quality. :( I had to add the head string on myself actually. But now he can hang with his Kenshin buddies! :D

Top shelf has my Kenshin books (I am missing 16-24 ;-;) Also some Kenshin figures that suck at standing. The fuzzie headded plushies are the official mascots I mentioned earlier. The other two plushies are the only customs I have that I didn't make. The one in green pants is probably my favorite plushie ever. The other one has costumes for different holidays! :D

Bottom has artbooks and archaeology books and all sorts of neat things.

The Batman clock is literally the best thing ever. It projects the batsignal onto the ceiling! :D :D :D :D :D

So I was visiting family in NC over the weekend. My Uncle was having a problem with his powerpoint presentation that he uses to sell giant industrial cooling units. The videos were not playing. After getting frustrated and reading the help file, I figured out the problem was the file path was too long. There can only be 128 characters! How dumb. xD

So he gave me some roses from his garden, aww. :3

But after a night in water they really perked up! :D *happy* I never get flowers. xD

I CAUGHT MY VERY OWN UFO CATCHER PLUSH!!! Eeyore. <3 In one go too! :D Sega it seems have made a deal with PILOT travel centers. Many of these facilities now have SEGA UFO Catchers in their Game Rooms! :D YES!!

Today was a good evening. :D

My brother and my mom went to a concert called Hippie Fest that they really enjoyed. While they were there, Daddy and I finally went to see The Dark Knight since his boss had given him a movie gift certificate. It was great! :D My impressions are below. After the movie we went back to the ampitheater since the concert was almost over. We caught the last song, which was a cover of 'Paint it Black' done by The Animals. It was meh. I'm not a big fan of covers usually. :\ Except when I don't know the original song. xD

Trailer Impressions

Watchmen was a very cool trailer, it looks like a decent movie. I have heard good things about the graphic novel too but it all seems weird. I don't care for post apocalyptic stories much. xD

The new Terminator trailer was visual AIDS and I would rather watch Electric Soldier Porygon on repeat than ever see it again. :\

There was a trailer for Blindness, too which looks freaky and the trailer for Twilight which looks as bad as everyone says it's gonna be. xD There was also a trailer for the new Mummy flick, which was also meh but the terracotta soldiers looked neat I guess. They didn't call them by their proper names. xD There were probably other ones too that I forget because there were too many damn trailers. :P

Movie Impressions (Spoiler free I pwomise! I wasn't spoiled so I sure as heck won't spoil anyone else, however I do go into actor/character analysis because I am a theater geek who has studied Stanislavsky so there. :P)

The film was great, it was non stop action, very intense and in your face. I can't understand how my bro was able to see it on IMAX. xD Ledger was great as Joker, really perfect. I am an old-school Batman fan, IE Adam West and Michael Keaton and I felt Ledger did well. His performance reminded me of Depp in Willy Wonka actually, in the slight insanity but he's being serious way and in the child-like voice way but there was also a very deep menacing side to it as well. It's a lot darker than Nicholson's Joker, but maintains the craziness that comes out of nowhere.

I had no idea Brian Eckhart was in the film and I thought he was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. There were so many shades to his character. Again darker than Tommy Lee Jone's character, but the days of campy Batman are over. Billy Dee Williams (LANDO) is the Harvey Dent I see most often so it had actually slipped my mind he was Two-Face. xD This isn't a spoiler because it's alluded to very early on in the film. :P

As for Bale, I have the same comment I keep hearing over and over. He pushed Batman's voice too hard. :P

The film overall is very twisted and mindbending, rather like the Joker in fact. I recommend it! It can be frightening though. It's not as scary as Scarecrow. Damn him. :P

After the film I tried to win a Batman plushie from a crappy crane game. Failed. xD Crane Game =\= UFO Catcher. I hate when people call regular claw machines UFO Catchers. :P Pet Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve. D:

Then we got Mommy and Joey and went to a diner for some dessert. Oreo Cheeeseeecake. <3333333

Yay Grad Schools

I want to go into Nautical Archaeology, specifically conservation of excavated artifacts, more specifically pertaining to Historical American wreck sites. I think I will apply to both these schools for grad school, but my favorite plan would be TAMU for my MA and ECU for my PhD.

Texas A and M University

Good: American Branch of the Institute of Nautical archaeology is on site,
diving experience not necessary but a plus (will have diving experience), Spanish language
a MAJOR plus, BIIIIIG focus on conservation <3 <3 <3 <3

Bad: can't get assistantship first year, farther away, focuses on classical sites more

Other: 30 hours, 12 of which will be made of special seafaring seminars

Deadline: Jan 1st 2010

East Carolina University

Good: Close, can get assistantship first year, historical american focus, coastal location,
very interesting field projects going on

Bad: need open water SCUBA cert from nationally recognized agency, history focus :\

Other: Maritime History/Naut Arch - 36 hours 26 of which are history???

Deadline: March 1st 2010

So I drove again today! :D With my mom this time, not the driving instructor. He's better at staying calm than she is. xD But she agrees I am pretty good! :D I have to try really hard when I am driving, so maybe I am not great but I am pleased. :D

We drove to the Japanese grocery and book store, Tomato. Under the cut I have pictures of my very first Coro-Coro magazine (Expensive! @_@) and Pokemon gummies! I also got some Botan Rice Candy, some anpan (it's okay) and my VERY favorite mochi daifuku. <3333 I am saving this for a special time. :D They had a Pokemon Ranger capture styler spinning top toy thing, but it was expensive. D: Cool though! :D

OMG they are from last summer. xD (actually the expiration date is this October, so they are fine :D)

Yay! They are cute and actually tasty! I wonder if they come in other colors. :o

Toothy likes them too! :D

And here is August's Coro-Coro! They had other magazines with Shaymin on them with other goodies inside but I really wanted to make sure there would be Pokemon stories too, and the only one I know that serializes Pokemon is this one! :D Although if they had the one that comes with the clear Shaymin kid I would have gotten that like woah. There is an advert in this one for that one. xD There were two Pokemon stories like I expected and to my surprise and delight there were Kirby and Mario stories too! :D Also I recognized Doreamon, but ehhhhh. xD

Look what I got! Its like a big shiny metallicy card/mini poster thing. I will try to get a better picture of it before my next post on pkmncollectors. xD It's just sooo reflective! It will look great on my wall next semester! :D There was also a mini Deul Masters manga and promo card. I will probably sell these. :o I dunno. xD Totally keeping Skymin though. <3
